At a milonga, we sometimes find ourselves hiding in the corner, saying that “we’re trying to learn by watching.” Nothing wrong with that (for now). We spot a few dancers who look good, and try to figure out how they’re doing all those fun steps.

It’s also great that we’re listening to the music, reading as much as we can about the history of tango, and finding “how-to” guides online.

But no amount of studying, preparing, and “learning by watching” will turn us into dancers. The fun and thrill of tango is definitely real, but we’ll only experience it once we complete the journey that begins in the corner and ends on the dance floor.
