A few years ago, I remember being at a milonga where the organizers placed a card on each table. Printed on each one was a list of tango etiquette. Most of it was stuff familiar to anyone who had been dancing for a while, but one line stuck out in my head. It read:
“Don’t confuse the dance floor for a stage.”
The fancy stuff we learn is definitely fun, but it’s like icing on a cake. A small amount is ok, but too much will ruin it.
And if the cake is really well-made, no one will care if there’s no icing at all.
