It feels great to to do a tango figure “correctly,” knowing we’ve stepped in the “right” place when pulling off an elegant move we just learned.
But even if you have an experienced partner, the act of leading/following another person always results in some kind of energy acting against your balance.
Individual figures have a beginning and end, but maintenance of your axis throughout all elements of the dance is a constant effort.
Focus on your stability and balance at all times, whether it’s through a colgada, a simple walk, or just a small weight change in place. It’s not the first or most interesting thing we think of while dancing, but it’ll go a long way in moving our tango forward.
