Going to a milonga or lesson for the first time? Or maybe you’re taking a class that’s the next level up from the previous one and it feels scary.
There isn’t much we can do to “prepare” ourselves. But that’s the whole point.
Learning tango isn’t the same thing as studying for an exam or memorizing the “right” answers that some authority figure wants to hear. If we went to a new class or milonga already knowing what was going to happen and how to do everything, it would defeat the whole purpose.
That first milonga or new class is about soaking in the experience the moment it unfolds.
Feeling “unprepared” is uncomfortable, but in tango it’s often a prerequisite for growth.
